VIA FERRATA SAFARI

Sella & Sassolungo Via Ferrata Hut to Hut Traverse – Dolomites

PASSO SELLA & PASSO PORDOI

UP TO 5+ DAYS

END OF JUNE - OCTOBER

A guided via ferrata hut to hut traverse around the Sella Group and Sassolungo with a private Mountain Guide, part of the Grand Via Ferrata Safari of the Dolomites by Dolomitesafari. This multi day journey moves between Val di Fassa and Val Gardena across iconic limestone towers, panoramic ridges and legendary routes leading to the summit of Piz Boè at 3,152 m in the heart of the Dolomites.

Step into the beating heart of the Dolomites with our Sassolungo and Sella Via Ferrata Safari between Val di Fassa and Val Gardena. Leaving behind the fairy-tale vertical peaks of the Rosengarten, we enter the world of the massive Sassolungo and the 3,000-meter peaks of the Sella Group, reaching the legendary Piz Boè (3,152 m).

This safari is perfect to combine with the Rosengarten Via Ferrata Safari, creating a 10-day Grand Dolomites Via Ferrata adventure that starts with beginner and intermediate routes and progresses towards more challenging ferratas. It also works beautifully for those who want to continue with more demanding programs such as the Civetta or Pale di San Martino Via Ferrata Safaris.

The first 2 days are accessible for fit beginners who are comfortable with exposure, and are also enjoyable for intermediate climbers. From day 3, the level increases, and the safari becomes more demanding, with routes such as the Meisules and Piazzetta Via Ferratas, which are sustained and classified as difficult.

Alternatively, beginners and intermediate participants can continue on a more accessible itinerary towards Passo Gardena, with routes such as Piccolo Cir, Grande Cir and the Tridentina Via Ferrata at Pisciadù, combined with a scenic ascent to Piz Boè, completing a 5-day safari.

All options are fully guided, and we will help you choose the best structure based on your experience before the trip!

Do you want to continue your Grand Dolomites Via Ferrata Safari with even more challenging programs? From Passo Fedaia, it is possible to transfer towards the Civetta Via Ferratas or explore the stunning Pale di San Martino routes, extending your adventure deeper into the Dolomites.

Who is this via ferrata trip for?
Level: Beginner → Advanced (two itinerary options)

The first 2 days are suitable for fit beginners with a good level of fitness and who are comfortable with exposure, and are also enjoyable for intermediate climbers.
From day 3, the level increases and the program becomes suitable for participants with previous via ferrata or climbing experience.

Alternatively, beginners and intermediate participants can continue towards Passo Gardena, with routes such as Piccolo Cir, Grande Cir and Tridentina, completing a 5-day safari with the ascent of Piz Boè and descent to Passo Pordoi.
We’ll help you choose the best option based on your experience before the trip!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

  • After breakfast, we meet in Bolzano and drive together with the guide’s private car up to Passo Sella, right in the heart of the Dolomites.

Today we climb the beautiful Via Ferrata Col Rodella, set on very solid rock, with some fun and slightly challenging sections. The position is incredibly scenic, with amazing views over the Sassolungo group.

After the first route, there is time for a second enjoyable ferrata: Forcella Sassolungo, a short but rewarding climb that brings us deep into the wild atmosphere of the massif.

We then continue to our Rifugio, where we spend the night surrounded by the dramatic towers of the Sassolungo.

    Accommodation: Rifugio of the Dolomites

  • After breakfast, we start directly from Rifugio and head towards the Sassopiatto.

Today we climb the Via Ferrata Schuster, a beautiful and varied route that goes steep and deep into the mountain, always on very solid rock, with some more challenging sections and incredible views all around.

Once on the summit of Sassopiatto, we begin our descent along the easier and less vertical back side of the mountain.

We stop for a well-deserved lunch break at Rifugio Sassopiatto, enjoying an incredible view over the Sciliar!

From here, we continue hiking, completing a full loop around the Sassolungo group, surrounded by some of the most iconic Dolomite landscapes!

We reach Passo Sella in the afternoon, where we spend the night in a cozy mountain hut with stunning views over the surrounding peaks of Marmolada and Sella ranges.

    Accommodation: Rifugio of the Dolomites

  • Starting from our hut at Passo Sella, we have a full and exciting day ahead. After a 45-minute approach, we begin the Meisules Via Ferrata, a challenging route that rewards us with 360-degree views over all the Dolomites of Val di Fassa and Val Gardena. The trail leads into the very heart of the Sella group, reaching the summits of Piz Selva and Piz Miara, before crossing beneath the top of Sass Pordoi and arriving at Forcella Pordoi, from where we descend to the homonymous pass. Waiting for us there is the historic hotel founded by the legendary mountaineer, the “Devil of the Dolomites,” Tita Piaz!

    Accommodation: Hotel at Pass Pordoi

  • From the hotel at Passo Pordoi, today we take on one of the most technically challenging via ferratas in the Dolomites, the famous Piazzetta. The beauty of this route lies in its vertical sections, climbing on golden and orange sunlit rock walls, and reaching one of the highest and most central peaks of the Dolomites: Piz Boè, offering views that stretch endlessly into the distance. The descent retraces part of yesterday’s route to reach Pass Pordoi, followed by a short 40-minute climb to our hut, with breathtaking views of the Marmolada and its glacier.

    Accommodation: Rifugio of the Dolomites

  • From the hut, we start a trail with ups and downs leading to the Trincee Via Ferrata, following the historic ridge of the Austro-Italian front from World War I. Along the way, you’ll climb on the striking black conglomerate rock, discover old trenches and soldiers’ chambers, and even encounter a wartime cannon. You’ll have the chance to explore tunnels carved directly into the mountain itself, feeling the history come alive. The descent brings us to Passo Fedaia, marking the unforgettable finale of our Dolomites via ferrata adventure in the Sella and Sassolungo groups!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

Do you want to continue your Grand Dolomites Via Ferrata Safari? From Passo Fedaia, we take a bus transfer to the Civetta via ferratas!

  • Breakfast and departure on your own (private transfert to the airport is possible on request).
