Guided Via Ferrata in the Dolomites
Why follow a traditional Alta Via, if you are an adventurous and fit explorer ready to go beyond hiking trails and experience the Dolomites in a more complete and technical way?
The best way to fully experience the Dolomites in summer is combining hiking with the vertical nature of these mountains, through a Via Ferrata Safari with a private IFMGA mountain guide: a hut to hut journey across the Dolomites, moving from mountain to mountain, climbing a different via ferrata each day and sleeping in traditional mountain huts (Rifugio). Here you can relax, enjoy local traditional food and spend the night surrounded by the towers of the Dolomites! Each journey is flexible and tailored to your level.
We designed “The Grand Via Ferrata Safari of the Dolomites” (click on the link for more info), an ideal long-distance journey that connects 18 via ferratas navigating across the several Dolomites mountain ranges: starting from Bolzano and linking the Rosengarten, Sella & Sassolungo, Civetta and Pale di San Martino Dolomites. It can be experienced in sections of 1 to 5 days, or completed over multiple years as a personal progression through the Dolomites.
There are options for beginners as well as for experienced climbers. What matters most is the journey through these mountains, and even a small part of it will stay with you long after the adventure ends!
Our signature adventure, a progressive & modular hut-to-hut trek across some of the most iconic mountain groups of the Dolomites. It’s the Alta Via of the Dolomites but with via ferrata!! Designed to grow with your experience, this unique safari can be completed in one continuous traverse of 18 days or explored over multiple seasons, allowing you to build your own path through the vertical world of the Dolomites!
Each stage of the safari is presented as a dedicated program from 1 to 4 or 5 days, giving you the freedom to start where it feels right for you and progress at your own rhythm.
Begin among the legendary towers of the Rosengarten, ideal for those stepping into multi-day via ferrata trekking, and continue into the heart of the Dolomites with the Sassolungo & Sella VF Safari, where more demanding routes lead to the summit of Piz Boè (3,152 m / 10,338 ft).
For climbers already confident on via ferrata or with rock climbing experience, the imposing walls of the Civetta and the soaring peaks of the Pale di San Martino represent the most challenging stages of the safari, blending technical ferratas with true alpine exploration!

Guided Via Ferrata Programs Beyond the Dolomites
Not all great via ferrata adventures happen at high altitude. During the shoulder seasons, and sometimes even in winter, we explore incredible routes beyond the main Dolomite peaks, choosing lower elevation walls that offer the perfect mix of sunshine, rock quality and unique landscapes.
From the cliffs around Bolzano to the Mediterranean scenery near Lake Garda or the quieter and wilder atmosphere of Lake Iseo, these experiences allow you to keep climbing year-round while discovering a different side of northern Italy.
And for those who want to push adventure even further south, we offer the legendary Wild Blue Trek (“Selvaggio Blu”) in Sardinia, considered one of the most wild and adventurous coastal treks in Europe. A five-day expedition along dramatic limestone cliffs above the sea, combining remote hiking, bivouacs, rope sections and spectacular abseiling in one of the most untouched corners of the Mediterranean.
The altitude may be lower, but the adventure and the views are just as fantastic! Check the programs below!

Anyone! Seriously—via ferratas are a fantastic way to get a taste of climbing in a safe and exciting way. The Dolomites are a true paradise for via ferrata lovers – with routes for all skill levels, and especially plenty of great options for beginners looking to try their first adventure!
Of course, we recommend this activity for people in good general health, without major physical issues, who aren't afraid of heights and have some hiking experience.
If you've already tried real rock climbing, you'll love the challenge of a medium-difficulty via ferrata too!
And yes—kids can join the fun as well, starting from around age 7! -
To get the most out of your adventure, it’s a great idea to prepare your body a little beforehand!
We recommend running or cycling to boost your aerobic fitness and stamina. Gym workouts are also a big plus—they’ll help you build a strong, resilient body that can handle the climbs and long days outdoors.
And if you're aiming to take on our more challenging via ferratas, why not try some indoor rock climbing? It’s a fun and effective way to build grip strength, coordination, and confidence on vertical terrain!

Depending on the season, we’ll help you choose the right outfit based on the day’s weather conditions. In general, we recommend technical mountain clothing that’s stretchy, breathable, and comfortable.
You might also need a light rain shell and a down jacket or insulating layer in case of colder days.
For footwear, the ideal choice is approach shoes with a stiff sole—ankle support is optional but can be helpful on rocky terrain.
You’ll also need a 20-liter backpack for single-day routes, and a 25–30 liter backpack for our multi-day hut-to-hut Via Ferrata Safaris. If your backpack isn’t waterproof, be sure to bring a rain cover to keep your gear dry.
No need to worry about the technical equipment—we’ll provide via ferrata gloves, harness, helmet, and the via ferrata lanyard set.
And don’t worry—we’ll send you a complete gear and clothing checklist when you book your adventure, so you’ll be fully prepared!

In general, summer—from June to the end of September—is the ideal season to climb the via ferratas of the Dolomites! This is also when the mountain huts are open, making it possible to do incredible hut-to-hut traverses high in the mountains.
If you’re planning to book your Via Ferrata Safari in October, we’ll keep an eye on the weather: depending on the conditions, we may still climb in the Dolomites, or, if the days are too cold, we can switch to some beautiful lower-altitude routes in the valleys or even explore the stunning via ferratas around Lake Garda.
These lower routes are perfect in the shoulder seasons, and even on sunny winter days, offering a great alternative when the high mountains are out of reach!
-
Spending the night in a rifugio is a unique and unforgettable part of the Dolomites experience! Cozy atmospheres, breathtaking views, and the warm hospitality of the mountain hut keepers make it truly special.
