Lake Iseo Via Ferrata Adventure: Two Days of Climbing and E-Biking in Northern Italy

Looking for a real mountain adventure in Northern Italy, just a short journey from Milan or Verona and Bergamo Airports? Welcome to Lake Iseo, a beautiful corner of Lombardy where spectacular mountains rise straight above the water, quiet villages still preserve their traditional atmosphere, and some fantastic via ferratas remain (still) far from the big crowds. The best period? October and November.

This two-day Lake Iseo Via Ferrata Safari combines two exciting climbing routes, scenic e-bike rides and an overnight stay in Pisogne, a charming lakeside village that is still, for now, a little oasis of tranquillity. And it's where I actually grew up!

Two Via Ferratas Above Lake Iseo

The adventure focuses on two spectacular routes: Via Ferrata Corna del Bene and Via Ferrata Corna delle Capre.

Both start from the mountain village of Zone, above Lake Iseo, and offer an exciting combination of vertical climbing, beautiful views and proper physical challenges. These are not beginner via ferratas. With short sections graded up to C+, both routes require good fitness and confidence on exposed terrain!

The good news is that the climbing is generally easy to read, thanks to the generous presence of artificial footholds and metal rungs. The routes are physical, but the holds make it easier to understand where to move next.

And the views? The reward is a wonderful perspective on the mountains and the deep blue waters of Lake Iseo.

The E-Bike Approach: More Adventure, Less Walking

One of the things I love about this experience is that the adventure starts before we even reach the rock.

Instead of driving up the mountain or spending extra hours walking along access roads and forest tracks, we set off from Zone on e-bikes. We follow mostly forest roads through the surrounding mountains, enjoying the scenery and the ride, before leaving the bikes and completing the final short section on foot.

The e-bike approach makes the whole experience more enjoyable and efficient. It reduces the time spent walking to the routes and adds another fun outdoor activity to the day!

It is a great way to explore the area, and a reminder that a mountain adventure can be about much more than the climb itself...

Zone: Pyramids, Hiking and Climbing

Zone is much more than a starting point for our via ferrata adventures.

The village is famous for the Pyramids of Zone, earth formations sculpted by centuries of erosion. The surrounding mountains offer plenty of hiking opportunities, from the panoramic summit of Corna Trentapassi to Monte Guglielmo. Corna Trentapassi also has a considerably longer via ferrata itinerary for those looking for a more sustained adventure.

And for rock climbers, the nearby Valle dell'Opol has become a fantastic destination for sport climbing, with an impressive variety of routes and climbing possibilities.

But there is much more to discover around Lake Iseo! Just beyond the lake begins Valle Camonica, a fascinating valley famous for its prehistoric rock engravings, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Further north, the mountains of the Adamello group offer a completely different alpine environment, with spectacular peaks, glaciers and more via ferratas that are perfect for summer adventures.

Whether you love hiking, sport climbing, via ferratas or exploring the cultural heritage of the Italian Alps, this area offers enough possibilities to keep you busy for days.

And yet, despite all these attractions, you can still enjoy the peace and slower pace that can be hard to find in more famous mountain destinations.

Overnight in Pisogne (Another Great Possibility: Lovere)

After a day on the via ferrata, it is time to head back down to the lake.

Our base is Pisogne, a lovely historic village right on the shore of Lake Iseo. It is easy to reach by train from Milan and from the Bergamo area, making it a particularly convenient destination if you are travelling without a rental car.

What makes Pisogne special is its atmosphere. While other Italian lakes have become famous international destinations, here you can still find a quieter, more traditional side of lake life, especially during the week.

Imagine finishing a day in the mountains with an ice cream, an aperitivo and dinner in the village square, just steps from the water. No complicated logistics, just walk to your dinner! Just good food, beautiful surroundings and the pleasure of being somewhere that still feels authentic.

For me, that is an essential part of the experience.

Two Days of Via Ferrata, E-Biking and Lake Life

You get two challenging via ferratas, scenic e-bike approaches, a beautiful mountain setting and the chance to discover a quieter corner of Lombardy. And because the area is accessible by train!

Would you like to explore the area for longer? My 4-day Lake Iseo Via Ferrata Safari is a fantastic option to discover even more of the surrounding mountains, combining via ferratas with the incredible variety of hiking and climbing opportunities this area has to offer.
