An extraordinary ski mountaineering journey awaits – three (or more!) days of adventure as you traverse one of the most enchanting and untouched regions of the Dolomites: the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park.
Spend your nights in cozy, rustic alpine huts, where warm hospitality and hearty meals welcome you after each day in the mountains.
This traverse offers the perfect introduction – or deep dive – into ski mountaineering in the Dolomites. While the area’s peaks may not all be classic ski summits, the terrain is tailor-made for exploration: wide passes, dramatic saddles, and exciting couloirs just waiting to be skied.
Your journey begins in the charming Val Badia, in the village of San Cassiano – one of the Dolomites' most captivating valleys. Over the course of three days (or more), you'll ski through the spectacular Fanes, Conturines, and Braies ranges, eventually reaching Lake Braies – the "pearl of the Dolomite lakes" – famous for its surreal turquoise waters and breathtaking alpine setting.
Along the way, you’ll summit some of the region’s most striking peaks, with your certified mountain guide carefully selecting the best route each day to ensure not only a safe ascent but also the most thrilling descents.
Craving an extra day in this backcountry paradise? Spend an additional night in the hut and explore more of the magical Sennes Plateau. You’ll have the chance to climb iconic peaks like sun-kissed Cima Dieci or Monte Castello, known for its consistently excellent snow.

HIGHLIGHTS
Embark on a backcountry ski traverse through the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park – one of the most pristine, dramatic, and captivating regions in the Dolomites.
Spend your nights in welcoming alpine huts, where you’ll enjoy authentic alpine hospitality and savor traditional Ladin cuisine in a warm, rustic setting.

DAY BY DAY

Your adventure begins in the picturesque valley of Alta Badia, Dolomites. Arrival is either on your own or with a private transfer (available upon request). You will meet your certified UIAGM Mountain Guide, who will go over the program for the coming days, conduct an equipment check to ensure everything is ready, and then you will enjoy a dinner in the town center!

After breakfast, a private transfer with your guide will take you to Capanna Alpina, where your ski mountaineering adventure begins! Weather and snow conditions permitting, today’s plan is to ascend Piz de Lavarela (3055 m) and enjoy a rewarding descent into Val Paron, reaching the basin of the Lavarela and Fanes huts (2050 m) for your first taste of Ladin hospitality, tradition, and cuisine!

Ready for the second day of your ski traverse, which will take you to the Sennes Hut, ascending the Forcella Camin and enjoying an exhilarating descent into the wide valley of Gran Valun, usually on good snow! From the Fodara Vedla Hut, a 30-minute ascent will take you to your refuge at 2126 meters, where, in the alpine silence of the Sennes Plateau, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking panorama of some of the most stunning Dolomite peaks: Croda Rossa, Cristallo, Sorapis, and Tofana.
Would you like to enjoy an extra day of ski mountaineering in the magical Sennes Plateau? We will spend an additional night in the hut and have the opportunity to summit more iconic peaks of the range, such as Cima Dieci with its sun-drenched slopes, or Monte Castello, known for its generally excellent snow conditions!

Today, from the refuge, you will move across the plateau to the Forcella Sora Forno, before ascending the most iconic mountain in the Sennes area to complete the traverse in the most spectacular way. Croda del Becco (Seekofel in German) rises steeply above Lake Braies and offers a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Dolomites. A descent into the Forn valley and then through the couloir known as Buco di Giovo will lead you to slopes covered in dwarf pines, eventually reaching the famous Lake Braies. A private transfer will take you back to Alta Badia, where you will stay in a hotel.

Your stay includes half board: a comfy bed, a hearty dinner, and a delicious breakfast to fuel your next adventure.
We highly recommend booking well in advance to secure the best spots – they fill up fast!

Refugios of the Dolomites: our handpicked mountain lodges are charming, rustic mountain lodges that offer a warm and cozy atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure. Located in some of the most stunning areas of the Dolomites, these refuges provide a unique, immersive experience with traditional alpine architecture and hearty local cuisine. Please note that if you request a single or double room, an additional supplement may apply.
