VIA FERRATA SAFARI

Rosengarten Via Ferrata Hut to Hut Safari – Dolomites

ROSENGARTEN - SCILIAR

UP TO 5+ DAYS

MID JUNE - OCTOBER

A guided via ferrata hut to hut traverse in the Rosengarten Dolomites with a private Mountain Guide, part of the Grand Via Ferrata Safari of the Dolomites by Dolomitesafari. This is a true multi day mountain journey through exposed routes, panoramic ridges and some of the most legendary alpine landscapes in the world!

Considered one of the most beautiful traverses in the Dolomites, this program crosses the wild scenery of the Sciliar Catinaccio area, moving between airy ferratas and authentic mountain refuges beneath the yellow and grey dolomite walls. Here, every step unfolds inside the mythical kingdom of King Laurin (discover the legend in our DS Journal), where history, coulors and vertical rock merge into a unique high mountain experience!

What makes this hut to hut via ferrata traverse unforgettable is the constant change of scenery and perspective. You move between rocky spires and aerial crests on the highest peaks of the Catinaccio, overlooking the green meadows of Val d’Ega, the grey towers of Latemar, and the deep blue waters of Carezza and Antermoia lakes. Above everything rise the iconic Vajolet Towers, surrounded by vast 360 degree views that stretch across the entire Dolomites.

Evenings are spent in welcoming rifugi where the rhythm slows down and mountain life feels authentic and real. You will enjoy traditional South Tyrolean and Trentino cuisine while resting at altitude, immersed in the atmosphere of one of the most spectacular mountain groups in the Alps.

This fully customizable traverse is guided privately and can be adapted to your pace, experience and goals. It can also be combined with the Sella and Sassolungo via ferrata traverse to create a longer journey through the Dolomites and a deeper experience within the Grand Via Ferrata Safari of the Dolomites.

If you dream to combine via ferrata and rock climbing in the Rosengarten Dolomites, check this program: King Laurin Traverse!

DAY BY DAY

  • Depending on the time of your arrival, a visit to the Oetzi Archaeological Museum or a simple leisure walk in the lively streets and squares of the medieval town of Bolzano will be possible.

You will have a welcome briefing before dinner with your guide, who will give you your via ferrata gear, double check the equipment…  and recommend a typical restaurant for dinner!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

  • You will take a private transfer after breakfast with your guide from Bolzano to Carezza, famous for its lake nestled in the forest at the foot of Latemar, with incredible colors! You might want to make a small stop for a picture!

Afterwards you will take the Paolina chairlift and immerse yourself in the world of Catinaccio/Rosengarten (italian and german name of this mountain range). Let the adventure start!

After breakfast you will approach the via ferrata with a hike of about 40 min from the Rifugio. You will start by climbing a ladder into a fun, narrow chimney! After a short hike under the famous Finestra tower, with its characteristic hole under the summit, you will begin the second part of the via ferrata on the summit pyramid. This will be a 360 degrees panoramic section: the view reaches as far as the distant Dolomites of Cortina, the Dolomites of Brenta, and the Adamello and Ortles Cevedale Alps!

From the summit, the descent of the via ferrata takes place on the opposite side until you reach the Vajolon pass and then with a walk of about 1.5h you will reach the Rifugio at the end of the itinerary for a well-deserved typical piece of cake and relax with a view of Rosengartenspitze west face, and Latemar and the green meadows of the Val d'Ega in front of you… not bad!

Read more about this via ferrata in our article in the DS Journal!

    Accommodation: Rifugio Fronza alle Coronelle

  • Having finished breakfast, it is already time to put on the via ferrata gear, the first section of which already starts behind the refuge! Once the first section is over, you will walk traversing under the West Face of the Catinaccio until you reach the real start of the Santer via ferrata: climbing up exposed rocks, the route enters the heart of the mountain among high spires and gullies until you reach Santner Pass, in front of the iconic Vajolet Towers!

After some relaxation and a good lunch in front of the towers, you will begin your descent (about 45 min) via a path protected by a steel cable that leads down to the Vajolet Valley, to the Preuss and Vajolet huts. From there you will ascend the valley until you reach in about 1h the Principe hut for a good piece of homemade cake, right below the walls of the Catinaccio d'Antermoia, in a magnificent location!

    Accommodation: Rifugio Principe

  • You'll be wearing your via ferrata gear after breakfast today, too: it's off to the fun part just outside the hut!

You'll climb the Antermoia via ferrata, not difficult but magnificent: the route traverses the mountain from side to side, passing over an aerial and super panoramic ridge that leads to the summit cross! You will be on the highest peak of the Catinaccio group, with a 360-degree panorama of the Dolomites!

After finishing the via ferrata you will reach the Antermoia Hut, near Lake Antermoia, a blue-colored gem set among the surrounding rocky mountains! You will sleep right here tonight!

    Accommodation: Rifugio Antermoia

  • You will reach the start of the via ferrata by walking about 45 min from the Refuge.

Today you will climb the Laurenzi ferrata, a stupendous ridge route that runs very exposed in one of the wildest corners of the Catinaccio group between the peaks of Molignon di Dentro and Molignon di Fuori. A route not to be missed, very scenic!

At the end of the via ferrata, through a path, we will reach Rifugio Alpe di Tires, where you will spend the night! Nestled in the mountains at 2440 m above sea level, just below the Denti di Terrarossa, where the via ferrata you will climb tomorrow runs!

Cozy atmosphere, homemade Tyrolean cuisine with all-local products, wines and craft beers await you!

    Accommodation: Tierser Alpl Rifugio

  • Just above the Refuge begins the Maximilian via ferrata, named after the manager of the Alpe di Tires Refuge! It is a fun route that traverses the Denti di Terrarossa through exposed and panoramic passages over the peaks of Catinaccio and Sciliar!

At the end of the via ferrata via a downhill trail you will descend into the wild Val Ciamin to Lavina Bianca di Tires. From here you will take an approximately 30 min bus transfer to Carezza, where the adventure began!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

To continue the grand Dolomites via ferrata tour, you can keep walking to reach Rifugio Sassopiatto. From there, you can join our Sella & Sassolungo Via Ferrata Safari and continue your Dolomites adventure.

  • Breakfast and departure on your own (private transfert to the airport is possible on request).
