VIA FERRATA SAFARI

Civetta Via Ferrata Hut to Hut Traverse – Dolomites

ALLEGHE - CIVETTA & MOIAZZA DOLOMITES

UP TO 4+ DAYS

JULY - SEPTEMBER

A guided Civetta via ferrata hut to hut traverse in the Dolomites with a private Mountain Guide, part of the Grand Via Ferrata Safari of the Dolomites. The most severe and committing stage of the project, designed for strong and motivated mountain lovers seeking a truly wild and immersive alpine journey.

Longer days, greater isolation, and a more alpine atmosphere define this chapter of the safari. The three main itineraries unfold across vast and remote terrain, each lasting around ten hours and ranging from medium difficulty to demanding and sustained sections. Far less crowded than the classic routes of the Catinaccio or the Sella, this stage reveals a quieter and more authentic side of the Dolomites.

The experience begins with a deliberate approach and a true sense of progression. The first day is dedicated to acclimatization and immersion, hiking toward Rifugio Coldai to gradually enter the environment. This warm up is not just a gentle introduction but an important step that allows your body to adapt to altitude and your rhythm to settle into the mountain. Reaching the hut with calm energy means starting the mission toward Ferrata Alleghesi and the summit of Monte Civetta with fresher legs, clearer focus, and the entire day ahead to fully enjoy the ascent.

What follows is a high mountain traverse through the Civetta and Moiazza groups, landscapes defined by silence, exposure, and monumental limestone architecture. Here the Dolomites reveal some of their grandest walls and most dramatic shapes, including the immense north west face of Civetta, the elegant spire of Torre Trieste, and vast ridgelines suspended above deep valleys.

Moving hut to hut through this terrain feels less like a simple via ferrata tour and more like an expedition across a wild mountain system, raw, powerful, and deeply rewarding. This stage of the Grand Safari is not only physically and technically demanding, it is also one of the most immersive experiences in the entire project. Each day builds toward the next, creating a continuous journey where effort, landscape, and atmosphere blend into a single adventure high above the valleys of the Dolomites.

Those who wish to continue the most demanding via ferrata journey of the Dolomites can naturally extend the experience toward the Pale di San Martino Via Ferrata Safari, continuing the expedition seamlessly into a new and spectacular mountain world.

DAY BY DAY

  • Your journey begins in Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites and the perfect meeting point before entering the wild landscapes of the Civetta massif. After check-in at the hotel, you will meet your mountain guide for a welcome briefing. During this informal meeting, your via ferrata equipment will be provided and carefully checked, the program will be reviewed together, and you will receive final recommendations for the upcoming safari… and for a nice restaurant to start your adventure in Italy!

Private airport transfers to Bolzano are available on request.

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

  • Transfer by car to Alleghe and panoramic hike to Rifugio Coldai, surrounded by the dramatic walls of Civetta. This first day is designed as a gradual entry into the environment: time to adapt to altitude, refine movement on rocky terrain, and immerse yourself in the rhythm of the Dolomites. The hike offers spectacular views without technical difficulty, allowing the group to arrive fresh and well prepared for the bigger objectives ahead!

Option for very strong and highly trained participants:
This acclimatization day can be skipped in order to attempt a one-push ascent from Alleghe directly to Ferrata Alleghesi and continue to Rifugio Torrani in a single long day. This variation requires excellent fitness and stable weather conditions.

    Accommodation: Rifugio Coldai

  • A true classic of the Dolomites. From the Coldai area, the route climbs toward the immense east face of Civetta, following the historic Ferrata Alleghesi along airy ridges and vertical limestone. The atmosphere becomes progressively more alpine as the route approaches the summit!

Reaching the top of Monte Civetta is a powerful moment: a vast panorama opening across countless Dolomite peaks. After the ascent, descend toward Rifugio Torrani, a small and iconic hut perched high on the mountain.

    Accommodation: Rifugio Torrani

  • From Rifugio Torrani, the adventure continues along the spectacular Ferrata Tissi, an exposed and scenic traverse that follows the dramatic crest of the Civetta group. This sustained traverse gradually carries you from the Civetta group toward its “brother” range, the wild Moiazza, revealing constantly changing perspectives over Val Corpassa and the southern Dolomites.

Arrival at Rifugio Carestiato, offering a relaxed alpine atmosphere after two intense days high on the massif!

    Accommodation: Rifugio Carestiato

  • The legendary Ferrata Costantini awaits — known as the longest via ferrata in the Dolomites and a true final test of endurance and focus. After the intense days already spent on the Civetta, you will quickly understand why saving a bit of energy at the beginning of the program can be a smart choice. Technically demanding and physically sustained, this route offers a wild and authentic atmosphere; yet with the constant support of your mountain guide, each challenge becomes part of the adventure, and the sense of achievement at the end is immense. Expect a long and rewarding day of around 10–12 hours, a powerful and memorable conclusion to your journey through the Civetta–Moiazza group.

Arrival at Passo Duran, followed by a local bus transfer to return to the car and drive back to Bolzano for the final comfortable night in hotel. But before, a big dinner in the center!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

For those continuing the Grand Safari of the Dolomites, the journey carries on toward Fiera di Primiero, in Val Canali, where the hut-to-hut via ferrata traverse of the Pale di San Martino begins.

  • Breakfast and departure on your own (private transfert to the airport is possible on request).

…Or continue the Grand via ferrata safari with the final stage at the Pale di San Martino!
