ROCK CLIMBING SAFARI

Dolomites Multipitch Climbing Classics Safari

DOLOMITES

UP TO 5+ DAYS

MID JUNE - OCTOBER

A guided rock climbing journey through some of the most iconic multipitch routes in the Dolomites, designed as a flexible hotel-based experience with the possibility of spending a night in a mountain hut when the adventure calls for it. Moving between areas such as Cortina, Alta Badia, Val Gardena and Val di Fassa, this program follows the spirit of a Dolomitesafari: travelling across landscapes in search of the most inspiring rock climbs.

Are you curious to discover the Dolomites through some of their most iconic rock climbs? This program is designed as the most flexible of all our rock climbing safaris. Instead of following a rigid plan, we move between the most beautiful valleys of the Dolomites — from Cortina to Alta Badia, Val Gardena and Val di Fassa — choosing each route day by day according to your experience, your wishes and the mountain conditions. The goal is always the same: to climb on the best rock, along aesthetic lines signed by legendary alpinists such as Comici, Dimai and Piaz, and to experience the true spirit of Dolomite climbing.

The itinerary described below is a realistic example of how a week might unfold, but every safari evolves naturally depending on the group and the season. Different valleys, different hotels and changing landscapes are all part of the journey, creating an itinerant experience that reflects the Dolomitesafari philosophy.

This adventure is suitable not only for experienced climbers, but also for beginners with some basic climbing or via ferrata experience who wish to step into a more vertical world and learn new skills surrounded by the Dolomites. We begin with a warm-up day to understand your movement and comfort on the rock, then gradually increase the challenge while keeping the focus on learning, safety and enjoyment.

One special night in a mountain hut brings you closer to the high peaks, offering a deeper connection with the alpine environment and the rhythm of life in the mountains.

If you are instead looking for a true hut to hut journey where multipitch climbing becomes part of a continuous alpine traverse, you might want to explore the King Laurin Traverse – Rosengarten Multipitch Climbing Safari, a more immersive experience moving day by day through the legendary towers of the Catinaccio.

DAY BY DAY

  • Bolzano is a charming medieval town, where Italian and German cultures blend harmoniously. Surrounded by the breathtaking mountains of Sciliar, Rosengarten and Latemar, it feels more like being in a small mountain village than in the capital of South Tyrol. Strolling through its squares and picturesque streets, you'll feel an atmosphere that is both cosmopolitan and authentically local. With its famous Christmas markets, museums like the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology featuring Ötzi, refined cuisine and prestigious wineries, Bolzano is a must-visit destination for those seeking beauty, history, and nature all in one place!

Your program in the Dolomites starts here! During the day, you can enjoy the “bella vita” of this south tyrolean town, and before dinner, you'll meet the mountain guide for an organizational briefing and gear double check before embarking on the multi-day tour! Get ready for fun!!!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano

  • After meeting with your climbing guide you’ll set off by car transfer toward the iconic Cinque Torri in the Dolomites. The drive takes around 1.5, so it’s a great time to enjoy the scenic mountain roads as you approach the climbing area, nestled in one of the most beautiful parts of the Dolomites.

5 Torri, which translates to 5 towers, that are the five main peaks with their characteristic geometrical shape that make them unique icon in the world! This place was the scene of bloody battles between Italians and Austrians during World War I, and today they are in fact a large open-air museum. The 5 Torri are considered by the local community as an open-air “climbing gym” because of the easy access to the walls, the possibility of climbing single pitches or choosing one or more of the multiple multipitch routes of every grade on one of the towers!

This will be a crucial day for getting to know your guide, learning or brushing yourself up on equipment management, rope progression techniques, and teaming up for the longer adventures of the coming days! Of course you will climb your first fun long route in breathtaking scenery and it will, as always, be an opportunity to improve your climbing technique with the advice of your guide!

After the first day you will be dropped off for check in at your hotel in Cortina, just a few minutes away! You can relax, or take a stroll through the center of this chic village in the mountains, which offers several entertainment options, stores, and great dining options! The second option is to stay overnight in a mountain hut in the Falzarego Pass area—perfect for those who love being immersed in the mountains!

Accommodation: Hotel in Cortina or Rifugio of the Dolomites

  • After breakfast, you will take a private car transfer to Passo Falzarego.

This place, which was also the scene of the strenuous battles of WW1, is one of the most famous for climbing in the Dolomites, because of the southern exposure of the walls that make it possible to climb early in the season and on slightly colder days, because of the excellent rock on the routes, because of the never too long approaches, and because it’s one of the most beautiful settings in the Dolomites!

The guide will select the itinerary of the level and length suited to your abilities from one of the great classics of the Falzarego towers, Lagazuoi, Sass de Stria or Col dei Bos! The return from the routes may be by abseil, via an iron path or on foot along the WW1 trenches!!!

At the end of the itinerary it will be possible to eat a typical hot dish in a Refuge: how about a pasta dish, spinach ravioli, an Alpinist's dish eggs-speck-roasted potatoes or a typical Kaiserschmarrn? You only live once!

At the end of lunch you will take a transfer with your guide to your hotel in Val Badia, you can check in and relax in preparation for the third day of climbing!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Alta Badia

  • The Sella Group is a vast mountain range that serves as a watershed with its famous mountain passes, located between the Ladin valleys of Val Gardena, Val Badia, Val di Fassa, and the Col di Lana area. It’s another incredible region for outdoor activities in every season: from freeride skiing and ski mountaineering in winter to hiking, via ferrata, and climbing in summer! The range even reaches a height of 3152 meters at Piz Boè!

The climbing opportunities are numerous, and your guide will select the right route to ensure a fun experience! After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the chosen location for your daily dose of adrenaline!

Here are some examples of places where you could go climbing: the Sella Towers, Piz Ciavazes, the 5 Towers of the Sassolungo, the Gardena Pass area, or the Vallon and Pordoi Pass areas! The options are endless! At the end of the day, you’ll take a private transfer with your guide to Pozza, a charming and typical village in the Val di Fassa!

Accommodation: Hotel in Val di Fassa

  • After breakfast you will take the private transfer with your guide to Gardeccia, at the foot of the massive and striking east face of the Catinaccio peak! You will have a hike in the Vajolet Valley and in the afternoon will check in in a typical and cozy alpine refuge right in the heart of legendary Laurin Kingdom. A great way to embrace even more the spirit of the Dolomites mountaineers! Ready for a great sunset in the mountains?

During the day, if you are very energized there is also the possibility to add to the leasure hiking a panoramic via ferrata!

    Accommodation: Rifugio of the Dolomites

  • Today after a short approach, you will climb on the iconic Vajolet Towers! The three main towers stand high and isolated in the center of the Catinaccio group, all three around 2800m with little difference from each other. They are a real gem for climbing addicts!

Climbing them makes you feel more in the sky than on the ground: verticality, excellent rock, and exposure will mark your ascent until you reach the actual summit where there is just enough room to stand and have a 360-degree panorama of the Dolomites.

With some abseiling, you will reach the base of the wall and if there is time you can climb the second and why not the third tower too! Your guide will again know how to choose the right route for you from the many classic lines of different difficulties on these fascinating pieces of rock.

At the end of the climbing day you will return to Gardeccia, from where you will take the car transfer with your guide back to Bolzano, where you will stay overnight at your hotel.

The adventure is over, but the memories will be forever!

    Accommodation: Hotel in Bolzano
